It's time to learn the basics of mushrooming and foraging with a guide who truly knows the land! Explore the fascinating world of fungi and wild foods in this engaging, beginner-friendly presentation. You’ll learn how to recognize common mushrooms, understand the fundamentals of safe and ethical foraging, and gain a deeper appreciation for the natural abundance growing all around us.

Led by a lifelong Appalachian forager, this session blends practical know-how with storytelling, regional tradition, and a genuine love for the outdoors. Whether you’re brand new to foraging or simply curious about what’s edible on the forest floor, you’ll leave with new knowledge—and you may never look at the woods the same way again.

Whitney Johnson—The Appalachian Forager—is a Kentucky-based forager, author, and content creator known for her down-to-earth approach to mushroom hunting and wild edibles. Raised in eastern Kentucky, she shares Appalachian wisdom, self-sufficiency skills, and a deep respect for nature with audiences around the world. Through her educational (and often humorous) storytelling, Whitney celebrates traditional knowledge while inspiring others to learn, explore, and forage responsibly.
