Make it a leap year to remember...

Celebrate Leap Day by making your very own time capsule! Decorate your box at the library, then take it home and stuff it full of lists of your favorite things, drawings, and small tokens to remind you of your life today. Bury your box or keep it in a safe place, then dig it out again in 2028 to look back on your current self and the memories you created.

ABOUT LEAP DAY

During leap years, the calendar lengthens to 366 days on the Gregorian calendar to adjust for the scientific fact that it takes 365.2422 days—not an even 365—for the Earth to complete its orbit around the sun. Without a Leap Day, we would lose over 5 hours of time every year. The added day always occurs on February 29th, an extra day added to the calendar (approximately) once every four years—although the regular pattern changes about once a century and a leap year is skipped!
