Breathe in. Create boldly. Find your rhythm. 🌿🥁✨

This five-day youth mindfulness camp, sponsored by the Salt River Local Arts Collaborative, is a hands-on creative experience designed to help teens slow down, tune in, and express themselves in powerful new ways.

Each day begins with two core experiences:

  • Drum making & meditative rhythm
  • Creative writing & reflection

The third session rotates daily, introducing new aspects of mindfulness through art, emotional awareness, and creative exploration—from journaling and EFT tapping to spoken word and sculpture.

Daily Highlights

  • Monday: Journaling for Mental Health
  • Tuesday: Spoken Word & Creative Empowerment
  • Wednesday: EFT Tapping for Stress & Anxiety
  • Thursday: Extended Drum Building & Reflection
  • Friday: Wire Sculpture & Closing Drum Circle

By the end of camp, attendees will take home:

  • A handcrafted, playable drum
  • A handmade chapbook anthology of their original writing
  • Journals and creative artwork
  • Practical mindfulness tools they can continue using long after camp ends

Meet the Presenters

Cole Alexander is a heart-centered practitioner whose work blends embodiment, creativity, and connection to the living world. Rooted in soil mysticism, somatic awareness, and contemplative traditions, he guides participants through drum building and meditative rhythm practices that explore grounding, presence, and expression beyond words.

Finley Byers is a senior at Bullitt Central High School and a 2025 Governor’s School for the Arts participant. Finley leads creative writing sessions that help campers develop poetry and reflective pieces, culminating in a handmade chapbook-style anthology of their work.

Shylayna Southard is a student intern therapist who facilitates journaling practices focused on emotional awareness and healthy self-expression.

Evie Reid is a Certified Enneagram Life Coach who teaches EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping—a practical, accessible tool for reducing stress and anxiety.

Lance “Mr. SpreadLove” Newman II is a writer, poet, actor, and visual artist with over two decades of creative work. A regional poetry host and award-winning artist, he brings dynamic spoken word and creative empowerment practices that help youth discover and confidently share their voice.

Velena Zurschmeide is an artist who leads a hands-on wire sculpture workshop, transforming simple materials into expressive, meaningful art.
